Although many thought that the new console will replace the existing PSP 3000, Sony declared that the two portable consoles will be sold in parallel.

The first thing that the PSP Go brings new it's a smooth and shinny design, borrowed from its distant relatives - the smartphones. The newest PSP is much more lighter - with almost 43% lighter than the PSP 3000, much thinner - its dimensions being 5.04 x 0.65 x 2.72 inches and more stylish thanks to the slider design. Moreover, the "Go" has a display of 3.8 inches, can be connected via WI-FI or via USB 2.0 and can be used as an Internet tool thanks to the "Mylo Internet Communicator" from Sony.

Such changes were possible thanks to the removal of the UMD optical drive which was replaced by the digital content. This triggered the substitution of the UMD disks with the digital entertainment content which can be acquired from the PlayStation 3 by transfer or from the PlayStation Network. To store the digital content PSP Go offers a built-in flash-memory of 16 GB and a "Memory Stick Micro flash card slot".

All these features put together allow the PSP go to be a truly portable device and for the Sony PlayStations both home and portable consoles to step into the digital era. For the PSP Go Sony intends to augment the applications and support services offered and even to develop a music application for a true multimedia experience.
