I recently came across three videos by three different attorneys, all in the same town, produced by the same video company. These three attorneys compete with each other for clients. How do I know? Because like me, they also practice medical malpractice and personal injury law here in New York.

So what's with the headline in this article?

I had a chance to watch each of their videos. Why did I watch them? Because from the thumbnail image they all looked the same. The background was exactly the same. The pose that each attorney had in the thumbnail was the same, and the lighting looked exactly alike. Incredibly, the headline in each of the videos was exactly the same! By the way, these three attorneys are not in the same law firm. So I pressed 'play' and listened.

The first video was fine. (I don't want to divulge the topic, since you could then Google it and know exactly which video production company I'm referring to here.) I then went to the second attorney's video and pressed 'play'. I couldn't believe it. He was saying virtually the exact same thing as attorney #1. Same headline, same topic, same background, same interview pose and the same lighting. The only thing different was that it was a different attorney.

Next video to play was attorney #3.

OMG! That's not a phrase I ever say, nor would I ever repeat, but when I heard attorney #3 I simply could not believe my eyes and ears. The same content as attorneys #1 & #2 with some minor alteration; the same background; same lighting and the same interview position. This was stunning.

How could a video company produce a video for three different lawyers, all asking the exact same question, and each giving virtually the exact same answer? Could it be a hassle-free template that every attorney gets, regardless of what they've paid? Like a cookie-cutter style way of creating video?

The quality of the video was excellent- no complaint there. But the same question and the same answers for each of these competing lawyers? Give me a break. I'll bet you anything that this video company didn't tell these lawyers that they'd be creating the exact same videos for their competitors. That's why it's so important that when you hire a video production company to create your attorney videos you must ask whether these videos are custom created for you and only you. Even if there are competing attorneys using the same video company, ask your video producer to make sure you're different.

If your producer instead asks YOU how you're different from your competitors, I'd suggest it's time to look for another video producer. Your producer should be able to help you distinguish yourself from everyone else.

The next time you're fascinated with a particular web video company, my advice to you is Caveat Emptor.

I would like to edit video on my PC (sorry MAC fans I am not ready to switch yet) and burn to DVDs. I currently have Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 but editing my video is painful. It sometimes takes MANY (5-10) minutes just to move from one place in the video to another so I get tired of trying to edit the video and just give up. Also, rendering the video takes forever. What does it take to edit video in real (or close to real) time?

Open to software and hardware suggestions. If a new PC is in order I likely will connect to HDTV so a small footprint would fit my cabinet better.

Any advice would be appreciated but if you have actually "been there and done that" it would make me feel better. Also I don't mind building a PC from scratch if needed.

Currently using Vaio w/2.5GB RAM, XP, Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, Radeon 9200 series video card. Don't know video card memory size.

When dealing with an audio visual project, oftentimes your first instinct is to just go for whoever has the nicest ads, whoever seems most "high end", to put it bluntly, whoever is most expensive. The truth is, price isn't all that important in determining quality.

No matter how much you spend, you might hire an audio visual production crew, and get some results that are quite the opposite of what you had in mind. Sure, the finished presentation looks and sounds great, it has a professional feel to it, in fact, it's an impressive piece of work... it's just not what you wanted.

If you have all the money in the world, then you can afford to keep going back and forth and trying again until the av crew gets it right. However, most of us can't afford to buy up all of a company's time like that.

The solution is, of course, clear communication.

When you are lacking the ability of clear communication, either on the part of the client or on the part of the av people, it becomes simply impossible to get across what must be produced for a given project.

This is why the client needs to be just as involved in any av effort as the crew themselves. All an av provides to an audio visual project is their expertise. They don't provide the vision, the ideas, the technical knowledge of the industry they're doing the presentation for, etcetera. All of that has to come from the client.

Really, how much money you spend on an audio visual project has very little to do with the quality of the results you will be getting. In order to get your money's worth, and then some, out of an audio visual project, you need to make absolutely sure that the av people know exactly what you want, because how can they deliver that to you if they don't know what it is?

The first step to this is actually knowing what you want in the first place. Before even calling an av crew, make sure that you have a clear idea in mind to the point that you can picture your presentation piece by piece in your head. It's hard to communicate ideas when you don't know what they are in the first place, after all.

Secondly, you'll want to talk with your prospective av person on the phone to gauge how interested they are in actually working with you, and not simply for you. By that we simply mean that they seem sincerely interested in the project itself, and not just their rates and the deadline.

When it comes right down to it, the truth is that anybody with the requisite equipment can produce a great looking, great sounding av production. The actual craft to it isn't all that complex. However, when it comes down to the actual ability to clearly and effectively communicate an idea with the medium of audio visual, not all crews are created equal.

The weathers been so great this week I was thinking about going to Brighton this Sat with my boyfriend and maybe a few friends...BUT i've not been before so was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to get there or if its any good??

Over the course of the past few years, new inexpensive video technologies have allowed more people then ever before to try their hand at video production. People all over the planet are creating their own story lines and recording them for others to see and of course some projects turn out better than others.

Low Budget and No Budget Video Production

You don't need a huge Hollywood budget to break into video production. In fact, for some projects you need no budget at all. Just go take a look at all the videos that are posted on youtube and you can see some fine examples of low budget and no budget videos.

Video Production Lighting

Lighting is so important to any video production. So many factors such as mood can be manipulated with lighting alone, so you really should take a little time to do some research on it. Also don't run out and buy a bunch of expensive lights, because you can rent or rig up so much lighting, which will save you a lot of money.

Some Thoughts On Sound

Sound is also another aspect of video production that many novices fail to take a full accounting of. One thing that you don't want in your video project is any outside or unwanted sounds. A good quality microphone and an expendable boom to hold and manipulate it are something that you may want to consider buying or renting.

The Use Of Stage Makeup

If you re going to use people in any of your videos, consider using makeup on them. You may not realize it but virtually any one that you see on your TV such as news men and TV actors are wearing some type of stage makeup. At the very least, use some powder on their faces to counter the glare of the lights.

Film and video production is the process of creating a motion picture film. This process consists of the activities from the initial development to the final distribution stage. While the process differs from one production company to another, there are certain stages through which film and video production goes.

Typically, there are the pre-production, production, and the post-production stages. Though the production stage is the occasion when the actual filming takes place, the other stages, particularly the pre-production stage, significantly influence the entire process of film and video production.

The pre-production stage is concerned with the development and revising of the script. Budgeting and financing decisions are made at this stage. More time spent on planning and designing the process helps with keeping costs low during the entire course of the process. Scheduling, casting, and set construction are completed during this stage.

The production stage is when the equipment needed for filming is set up and appropriate lighting and audio devices are put in place. This is the phase of principal photography, when the actual filming takes place with the director of the film overseeing the operations. This is arguably the most critical and expensive phase of the production stage. Generally, the start of the phase of principal photography signals that the production of the film would, in all probability, be completed.

During the post-production stage, those sequences or scenes that were missed during the phase of principal photography are shot. Film editing and the addition of visual effects are done during this stage. Also, sound editing, musical scoring, and enhancing with sound effects are completed during this stage. The culmination of the entire film and video production process is when the film is distributed for marketing.
